Module 1: “Hips” Saturday 2:00-4:30pm
Consist of a warm-up yoga flow to create heat and ease kinesthetic exploration. Participants will learn and practice somatic “drills” or repetitive movements to encourage elasticity of hip flexors, hamstrings, and the rest of the body. These drills will also teach us to intuitively sense blocked points in the hips and increase sensitivity in motion. That will allow for deeper, longer holds in yoga postures. This part of the series will include optional adjustments from the instructor to help deepen the postures. Following the drill segment, we will return to Yoga Vinyasa, or flowing movement, to explore the freedom of the deep openings created during the workshop. Cool down will be followed by a introspective Question and Answer segment, Yin yoga postures, and a closing meditation. ***Journaling & sketching is optional. Colored pencils will be on hand but attendees can bring their own colored pencils or watercolor pencils (to keep it tidy, wait to water until you get home). ***
Module 2: “Heart” Sunday 2:00pm-4:30pm.
Begins with a brief discussion on the anatomical and energetic influence of the “Heart Space”, which, for the sake of this workshop, includes the chest, shoulder girdle, and upper back. When these areas close down or become tight/immobile, we can experience it as tightness in the chest or the sense of having a “closed heart”. This limits our vitality and mobility! This workshop will include somatic or intuitive movement drills to encourage opening and invite flexibility. Both dynamic, flowing yoga sequences and long holds will be explored with the option for personalized adjustments from the instructor to move deeper into poses. Module 2 will conclude with a couple of long, restorative, heart-opening yoga postures, a guided meditation, and an introspective Question and Answer segment. Journaling is optional.
